Sutton Lenore Foster born March 18, is an American actress, singer and dancer. She left Troy High School before graduating she received her diploma via correspondence courses to join the national tour of The Will Rogers Follies directed by Tommy Tune. In May , she received an honorary doctorate from Ball State University , "in recognition of her outstanding career in theater, television and music and for her contributions to the educational experience and professional growth of Ball State students. After touring in the role of Sandy Dumbrowski in the musical Grease throughout , Foster transferred to the Broadway production in She then understudied the same role on Broadway in Original leading lady, Kristin Chenoweth , landed a television series shortly after rehearsals began and was replaced with Erin Dilly as Millie and Foster as her understudy. After apparent clashes between the creative team, a "mutual" decision was made for Dilly to leave the production.

Foster grew up in Georgia , where her father worked for General Motors. She was an energetic child and began taking dance lessons at age four. Six years later she landed the starring role in a community theatre production of the musical Annie. In , having moved with her family to suburban Detroit, she was cast in the ensemble of a national touring production of The Will Rogers Follies. Mere weeks before the show officially opened in La Jolla, California, Foster was promoted from understudy to lead, and she continued in the role when the production relocated to Broadway in early Both performances earned her Tony nominations.
